PolySWAM is a polyphonic orchestral instrument, powered by physical modeling, designed for expressive composition and live performance. Play responsive acoustic ensembles in real time, with intelligent voice allocation and performance-driven legato, staccato, portamento, and dynamic transitions.

  • Polyphonic physical modeling: Play responsive orchestral ensembles without relying on static sample playback.
  • SWAM-powered expression: Shape dynamic, living performances with the real-time response associated with Audio Modeling instruments.
  • Intelligent voice allocation: Notes are dynamically assigned to individual virtual players for more natural polyphonic phrasing.
  • Performance-driven articulations: Move between legato, staccato, portamento, and other musical gestures through the way you play.
  • Ready-to-play presets: Explore chamber ensembles, symphonic layers, brass sections, big bands, and cinematic combinations without building a complex template.
  • Composition and live performance: Use the same expressive orchestral instrument for sketching, arranging, production, and performance on stage.
  • Streamlined workflow: Spend less time loading samples, selecting articulations, and configuring instrument layouts.

PolySWAM is a polyphonic physically modeled orchestral instrument from Audio Modeling, designed for expressive composition, production, and live performance. Powered by the SWAM engine and intelligent voice allocation, it lets you play responsive acoustic ensembles in real time without loading sample libraries, switching articulations, or building complex instrument layouts.

Choose a preset, start playing, and move naturally between chords, melodic lines, legato phrases, staccato passages, and expressive polyphonic gestures.

What Is PolySWAM? From the beginning, SWAM instruments have deliberately remained monophonic. This was not because polyphony was undesirable, but because realism, expressive control, and the detail of an individual performance came first.

Rather than changing the behavior of its established SWAM instruments, Audio Modeling created PolySWAM as a new instrument. It balances the realism and responsive control of SWAM physical modeling with the musical possibilities of polyphonic performance.

Developed with Emanuele Ruffinengo, Latin GRAMMY Award-winning producer, arranger, and music technology expert, PolySWAM introduces a practical new approach to expressive polyphony.

A Polyphonic Orchestra at Your Fingertips. PolySWAM provides an immediate way to play expressive orchestral sounds without beginning a sketch with a generic piano or static synth pad. Its physical modeled ensembles respond as you play, helping you develop an arrangement while hearing more of its intended phrasing, movement, and character.

Presets cover a broad range of musical contexts, from intimate chamber ensembles and large symphonic layers to focused brass sections, funk big bands, and cinematic combinations for contemporary scoring.

Faster Orchestral Sketching and Composition. Start with an expressive sound: Develop melodic ideas, harmonies, and arrangements with an acoustic ensemble that responds directly to your performance. Find the right ensemble quickly: Select a preset suited to the part instead of assembling a large template before you can begin writing. Keep the musical idea moving: Articulations and transitions are built into the instrument, reducing the need to stop and search through samples or manage articulation switching.

Expressive Orchestral Ensembles for Live Performance. SWAM solo instruments brought physical modeled violin, saxophone, woodwind, and other acoustic sounds to the stage. PolySWAM applies that responsive approach to complete polyphonic ensembles.

Perform layered arrangements in real time with an instrument that reacts to changes in phrasing, timing, and touch. PolySWAM gives keyboard players and other MIDI performers access to dynamic acoustic groups without relying on static recordings or a complicated live setup.

Physical Modeling Without Sample Playback. PolySWAM does not trigger a collection of pre-recorded samples. It calculates instrumental behavior in real time and dynamically assigns notes to individual virtual players. This modeled approach allows the sound and articulation to respond continuously to your performance. Instead of navigating a large sample library or programming an elaborate orchestral layout, you can select a preset and begin playing. The required acoustic articulations are already integrated into the instrument, helping you stay focused on the musical part rather than the mechanics of producing it.

Dynamic Legato and Polyphonic Gestures. Powered by the SWAM engine and proprietary voice-allocation algorithms, PolySWAM responds to the way you move between individual notes and chords. It can produce legato, staccato, and smooth portamento transitions as part of the performance.

The system analyzes note changes and chord movement to shape transitions dynamically. As you become familiar with how PolySWAM responds, you can create more fluid and convincing ensemble phrases directly from your controller.

System Requirements

macOS: The requirements for macOS are well-defined and strictly focus on modern Apple architectures

  • macOS 11 (Big Sur) or higher
  • Standalone, Audio Units, VST, VST3, AAX 64bit
  • Minimum Hardware: Apple Silicon M1 processor (or higher)
  • Recommended Hardware: Apple Silicon M3 processor (or higher) for optimal voice distribution and lowest latency.
  • Important Note: Intel-based Macs are not supported at this time.

Windows:

  • Because Windows configurations vary wildly, official performance boundaries are still being evaluated during this Public Beta phase. We need your help to test and map out Windows performance!
  • Operating System: Windows 11 is officially supported.

Additional Requirements

  • Hardware Specifications: High-performance, modern multi-core systems are required. Your CPU should provide processing power comparable to Apple Silicon performance standards.
  • Audio Drivers: A dedicated audio interface with reliable, high-performance ASIO drivers is mandatory to achieve workable latencies without audio dropouts.
