Naada Shehnai places a physically modeled North Indian double-reed instrument inside GeoShred Studio, where bright reed dynamics, continuous meend pitch slides, and ornamental gamak articulations respond directly to pressure and gesture on the playing surface. The instrument is fully polyphonic, supporting chords and layered melodic lines simultaneously.
Works with MPE controllers, wind and breath controllers, and GeoShred Control, a free iPhone and iPad companion app that delivers a multi-touch expressive surface for live performance.
Naada Shehnai runs inside GeoShred Studio, bringing the shehnai's piercing double-reed voice and its ornamental vocabulary to a multi-row continuous pitch surface. Slide across the grid to trace meend pitch glides between notes; press into the surface to shape reed intensity, vibrato depth, and dynamic weight in real time. The AccelMatrix Naada physical modeling engine generates each note as a continuous acoustic event, and because the instrument is polyphonic, you can sustain a drone tone while layering melodic phrases above it, or voice full chords across the surface. GeoShred's integrated FX rack adds EchoMT, Reverb, and AmpCab processing directly in the signal chain.

The Shehnai's Ceremonial Voice. The shehnai is a conical double-reed woodwind with a flared metal bell, rooted in the ceremonial music of North India. Traditionally crafted from shisham wood, it produces a bright, penetrating tone that projects across large outdoor spaces during weddings, temple ceremonies, and festivals. At softer dynamics, the instrument reveals a warm, nasal delicacy shaped by continuous embouchure variation. The model captures the shehnai's characteristic ornamental language, where meend slides, rapid gamak oscillations, and murki grace-note clusters are not isolated techniques but a continuous flow of pitch movement between structural tones.
GeoShred Studio and GeoShred Control. GeoShred Studio operates as a VST3, AU, or AUv3 plugin inside major DAWs, or as a standalone application. Its isomorphic surface is tuned in perfect fourths, providing a layout where melodic intervals repeat consistently across rows. Pressure and gesture are mapped continuously to instrument parameters, making the surface a direct conduit for the shehnai's ornamental vocabulary rather than a series of on/off triggers.
GeoShred Control is a free companion app for iPhone and iPad that connects via USB, adding a second multi-touch expressive surface for live performance. MPE hardware controllers and wind or breath controllers connect directly to GeoShred Studio as well.
