Play chords, layered harmonic textures, and expressive melodic lines across the full range of the instrument, all responding continuously to pressure and gesture on the pitch surface.
Works with MPE controllers, wind and breath controllers, and GeoShred Control, a free iPhone and iPad companion app that delivers a multi-touch expressive surface for live performance.
Naada Viola runs inside GeoShred Studio, where the viola's distinctive tonal character is accessible across GeoShred's multi-row continuous pitch surface. Press into the grid to shape dynamics and vibrato; slide between positions for expressive phrasing or sustained harmonic voicings. Naada Viola is fully polyphonic, allowing simultaneous voices for chordal writing, inner-voice harmonies, and rich ensemble textures that go well beyond what a single acoustic viola can produce. The AccelMatrix physical modeling engine powers the underlying acoustic simulation; GeoShred's integrated FX rack adds reverb, echo, and amp modeling as part of the signal chain.

Dark C-String Character and Alto Depth. The viola is tuned a perfect fifth below the violin (C, G, D, A), and its most distinctive quality is the dark, slightly nasal tone of the C string. That unique timbre comes from an inherent acoustic tension: the instrument needs a larger body for its pitch range but must remain small enough to hold under the chin. In GeoShred Studio, the AccelMatrix model captures that characteristic darkness and alto warmth while adding polyphonic capability, making the viola's voice available for harmonic layering, inner-voice writing, and ensemble-style performance.
GeoShred Studio and GeoShred Control. GeoShred Studio runs as a VST3, AU, or AUv3 plugin inside Logic Pro, Cubase, Reaper, and other major DAWs, or as a standalone application. Its multi-row isomorphic surface is tuned in perfect fourths, providing natural melodic continuity across the viola's range and supporting the connected, expressive phrasing that defines string performance.
GeoShred Control pairs with GeoShred Studio via USB and puts a second multi-touch surface on an iPhone or iPad for use during live performance. MPE hardware, wind and breath controllers connect directly as well.
