Studio Drums offers a selection from Vienna’s Studio Percussion Collection, and contains snare drum, field drum, piccolo drum, bass drum, concert toms, roto toms, tambourines, and boobams.

Snares and Taikos. The snare drum covers the treble register within the orchestral percussion section. The piccolo drum is smaller, and the field drum has a larger shell but higher skin tension, resulting in a brighter sound. The bass drum covers the lowest range and plays an essential role in almost all western musical styles. Taiko drum is a general term for various barrel-shaped drums that have a mythological origin in Japanese folklore.

Toms, Tambourines, Boobams. Concert toms are suspended tom-toms that are usually set up as batteries of four, six, or eight instruments. They have an open bottom and therefore no resonance head. As opposed to concert toms, roto toms have no drumshell - their heads are fixed on metal hoops that can be turned in order to change their tension and consequently their pitch. The tambourine is mainly played with the fingers, the palm, or the fist. Boobams are narrow tube drums with a definite pitch, so that a set of them can be used to play tunes.

Sampling. The library features a full set of articulations for the instruments. Recording the samples relatively dry at the Silent Stage makes it possible to place them on your virtual stage and in the stereo field wherever you like, but also enables you to integrate them with the Synchron Series by using the internal convolution reverb of Vienna Synchron Stage.
